No Advent Bread & Soup This Year

We are most grateful to all those who responded to our Appeal in lieu of the Annual Collection in September and to those who set up new Standing Orders.

We have been able to send donations to 10 of our regular beneficiaries this year and hope to support the rest before March.

The Parish Third World Group would normally be getting the pots of delicious soup ready for the Advent Bread and Soup Lunch this Sunday.

We are sorry that this Parish event cannot take place in 2020. It has always been very enjoyable and raised much needed funding.

Despite and because of the pandemic, we continue to try to support our beneficiaries in Africa, Asia and South America, where the spread of Covic 19 has made the task of helping the very poor to even survive, much more difficult than ever.

If you would like to make a donation or set up a Standing Order —

Either make an electronic transfer to our bank account Sort Code 90-22-07 and Account Number  68825172. If you are a tax payer and wish to gift aid your donation, please insert your name, house number and post code in the Reference Box when making the payment,

Or if you prefer to pay by cheque or cash or if you wish to set  up a Standing Order, please phone or text Kevin on 07525634440 or Rosalie on 07887708788 and we will arrange this with you.

This year proceeds from our Christmas Gift Cards will support the work of the Daughters of Charity to help provide food and a small income for poor families in Kenya – live chickens for eggs, seeds for planting, and goats for milk and manure to grow vegetables.

Please Help Us To Help Others

St Brigid’s Third World Group has been active for more than 20 years and we have increased our income to well over £100,00 per annum in recent years.

This has enabled us to provide grants of at least £5000 each year to each of our regular beneficiaries in Africa, South America and Asia and to make one-off donations in response to other requests.

In the last financial year 2019-20, we raised almost £131,000 from donations and fund-raising events. This included £23,000 including gift aid from a special collection in response to other requests for the victims of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.

We made grants of almost £127,000 to our beneficiaries,

The beneficiaries we support have told us of the devastating impact of Covid 19 on the poorest people whom they are trying to help.

  • Because of lockdown people are unable to earn even the pittance they might normally get.
  • Schools are closed and children miss the nourishing food they rely on.
  • The “wash your hands” and “keep your distance” are difficult to implement when you do not have easy access to soap and water and live in a crowded slum.

We are most grateful to those of you who continue to contribute regularly by Standing Order and to those who have already made donations by electronic transfer during lockdown.

Covid 19 means that we are unable to run any of our usual fund-raising events in the normal way.

So in lieu of our Annual Collection this year, we are appealing for your generous support to enable us to continue to help these extremely poor people either by making a donation or setting up a standing order. You can : –
